Purple Reusable Face Mask Made from Upcycled Fabric (a percentage of each order will be donated to charity!)

As masks have become a part of our daily lives, I've decided to come up with some of my own styles to bring you a comfortable and functional piece for everyday wear, while also creating a way to donate to charities in need. Because so many people are in need right now, I've decided to rotate which charities I donate to each week. These have all been researched after being suggested by my customers. My main goal here is to help as many people that I can, through the means in which I can. I will be happily publishing a proof of donation each Sunday night both here and on social media.

Based on percentage of sales, this year we have donated:

$1,000 to the The Black Sex Worker Collective

$160 to The Okra Project

$150 to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

$270 to the Native American Community Response Fund

For the remainder of the year, we will be donating to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

Through this design process, I've maintained my commitment to using vintage and upcycled fabrics. Each piece is cut from a limited batch of soft vintage cotton, then pleated and pressed with fusible lining. I've sewn an inner pocket on the face side that can be used to place a filter, and I've also inserted a bendable wire at the nose bridge that can be easily molded to fit your face. The sides have been sewn with a satin finished fold over elastic that helps seal the edges to your face, and there are adjustable ties that are long enough to tie either behind your head or your ears. This mask is designed to be hand washed.

*bleach should not be used on hand dyed ombre styles

These masks are not medical grade, but they can help prevent the spread of disease by reducing the ability of droplets to flow both in and out of the mask. Adding a filter can add to the efficiency of the mask- you can find some ideas for DIY filters here.

In addition to selling masks, I have also donated both masks and surgical caps to essential/medical workers. I will continue to provide this service to those in need. These are priced based on the amount of time it takes to make, and the amount that I'm aiming to donate. If these are out of your price range and you'd like to learn how to make your own version of this, I will be posting a tutorial on social media that I will also link here as soon as I can.

Some people think I'm a team of people, but many of you know I am an independent designer working solo most of the time. I have not been able to work with my part time assistant in my studio since early March, and I have had to purchase home versions of my industrial machines so that I can work from home. A positive side effect of this is that I have been self isolating as opposed to working in a big commercial factory building in Downtown LA, so I can guarantee your pieces are coming from clean, safe working conditions.

I make all pieces to order, but masks will be taking priority and shipping within 1 week of purchase instead of my normal 1-4 week turnaround.
